Make arrangements with your removal contractor and confirm the date and time for collection and delivery.

Notify the services for meter reading on the day of removal: Electric, Gas, Telephone, Water rates, Council tax

Check that all the services at the other end will still be continues

You will of course notify family and friends of your new address, among others you may need to notify are:
• The Post Office: Re-direction of mail, Pension, TV License
• Insurance companies: For buildings, house contents, vehicles, private health, life, etc.
•Investment companies: Bank, Building societies, Savings certificates, Premium bonds, Stocks and shares, Private pensions etc.
•DVLA: Driving license, Vehicle log book
•DSS and Tax Office
•Rental and mail order companies

It is also worth leaving your new address for the people coming into your house so that they will be able to forward mail after the Post Office re-direction service has finished

BEFORE THE REMOVAL DAY:
• Return library books
• Notify newsagent and milkman
• Run down fridge and freezer
• Dispose of unwanted furniture and effects
• Take rubbish to the tip
• Check if there are any parking restrictions at collection and delivery address – if so, advise removal company to discuss any necessary requirements
• Mark any boxes you may have packed with the contents
• Arrange suitable travelling containers for pets
• Check arrangements for handing in and collecting keys of old and new properties
• Empty lawn mowers, etc., of fuel
• Contact Education Department of new area if you have school children

THE DAY BEFORE THE REMOVAL:
• Pack any legal documents you may need and keep separate
• Assemble handy pack containing snack food/drink if required for a journey, damp flannel and towel, cash, important telephone numbers, pen and paper, torch, light bulb, scissors, toilet roll, spare car keys, children’s favourite toy, pet food, basic tool kit

ON THE REMOVAL DAY
• Try and arrange adequate parking for your removal van.  Keep items separate that you need to take with you.
• Put your faith in your removal company – but remember doors and gates have to be left open most of the time – so take care of small children and pets.
